Muir Woods and Sausalito Tours

Feeling old? I have the perfect solution.  Visit Muir Woods, where you will be surrounded by some of the tallest and oldest redwood trees that exist today.  Muir Woods, which is considered a National Monument, is comprised of 560 acres of redwood forest and 50 species of birds, steelhead trout, black-tailed deer, and hundreds of others.  Travel through the Cathedral and Bohemian Groves, where the trees stand at up to 252 feet tall and 14 feet across and some are up to 1,000 years old! Take a self-guided tour and visit the paved main trail for educational exhibits on these monstrous redwoods.

For an excellent combination of nature and nurture, take the Muir Woods and Sausalito Tour by Bus.  After an hour in Muir Woods, travel along a coastal road to Sausalito where you will be able to shop and enjoy the view from the bay or stop in a gallery or two.  Sausalito, located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, is home to some of the country’s wealthiest citizens, so on your travels make sure to take notice of the fabulous mansions along the way.

This tour lasts 3-4 hours, with an hour-long stop at Muir Woods and 45 minutes in Sausalito.  Some of the other tour highlights include: Golden Gate Bridge, The Marina, Presidio, Marin Headlands, the Palace of Fine Arts, and Mt. Tamalpais.  There are plenty of opportunities to take pictures, so don’t forget to stock up on batteries for your camera!

It is almost impossible to get to everything on one trip to San Francisco, but for those who are interested in a tour that provides a comprehensive overview of the city, the San Francisco City Tour is an excellent choice.  It departs several times daily from Fisherman’s Wharf and takes you past many of the major landmarks in the city, most notably the Golden Gate Bridge, Ghirardelli Square, and the Palace of Fine Arts.  It is often possible to stop at the Golden Gate Bridge and Twin Peaks, weather and traffic permitting.

This tour lasts for three and a half hours and is a great way to see many of the city’s landmarks under the tutelage of a friendly and informative tour guide.  The tour provides tremendous value and covers a wide variety of locations of interest, including but not limited to: Nob Hill, Golden Gate Park, the Financial District, the Opera House, and Union Square.

There is so much to see on this tour that you will never be bored.  I would give this exciting tour two thumbs up for covering a whole day’s worth of activities in under four hours.  When you finish your tour, head over to Chinatown for an incredible Chinese meal as a perfect end to the day!

The Golden Gate City, Full of Golden Opportunities

There are a wealth of opportunities for sightseeing in and around San Francisco, and with so much to see it is easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer scope of it all.  That is why it was so helpful when I discovered all the guided tours that are available in the San Francisco area to help make sense of the city and gain valuable insight into its rich history.

You can see San Francisco by way of a bus, limousine, Jeep, van, cable car, sailboat, or train.  Or, you can make a true adventure out of it by taking in the sights via seaplane, helicopter, horse, or kayak.  In San Francisco, the most popular attraction and a must-see for everyone, is Alcatraz, also known as “The Rock.” Alcatraz was last used as a federal prison and housed such infamous criminals as Al Capone and Robert Franklin Stroud, known as the “Birdman of Alcatraz.”  Alcatraz is open to the public for tours but it is one of the fastest attractions to sell out so it is imperative to plan ahead and book early.  There are a number of combination tour packages that include a trip to Alcatraz along with another popular destination such as Muir Woods.

For an overview of the most popular attractions in the area, the San Francisco City Tour is a must.  In less than 4 hours you will get an excellent overview that includes visits to the Golden Gate Bridge, the Palace of Fine Arts, Ghirardelli Square, and others.

See the Tallest Living Things on the Planet, Plus More!

John Muir Woods has been called the best tree-lovers monument that exists.  President Teddy Roosevelt named this old-growth redwood forest America’s 10th National Monument.  It actually just celebrated its centennial anniversary.  The area is a wonderful place to visit as it so astoundingly beautiful.

If you are looking for a complete tour of the area, try out the Alcatraz Tour with Muir Woods & Sausalito.  This is offered by Muir Woods Tours and gives you a comprehensive look at the area.  For your convenience, the tour bus picks up its passengers at select area hotels making this tour extremely convenient for you and your guests.

The visit to Muir Woods is absolutely wonderful.  The forest is full of giant redwoods, the tallest measuring at 258 feet.  Because these trees are so giant- they are the tallest of all living things-you could park a car under one of these massive trees!  Further north, these redwoods grow even taller; one is 74 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty.  They generally live between 600 and 800 years so don’t worry, they will be there for a very, very long time.

Following your journey through the vast forest, the tour will head over to Sausalito.  This charming waterfront community with a Mediterranean flair is often compared to the French Riviera.  While you visit the area, you can walk along the water and listen to the wave’s crash in, watch the sea lions play, explore the open air market, or take a break and enjoy a snack at one of the local eateries.  It is a beautiful location to you will make a point to visit again.

Lastly, you will arrive at Alcatraz Island to tour the world renowned prison.  Walk through the cell blocks where some of the most notorious felons were retained like Al Capone and George “Machine Gun” Kelly.  Your tour is extremely informative as every person receives an audio headset with stories from former guards and inmates.  While you are there, you can hike along the Agave Trail or head on up to the Cell House where several exhibits are on display for your viewing.

If you are looking to experience some of the greatest parts of not only this area, but of the country, then check out these exciting activities.  Reserve these and other fun vacation attractions through Muir Woods Tours today at www.muirwoodstours.com.
