Should You Stay at a Hostel?

Friday, June 27th, 2014

hostelWe’ve covered some reasons why you should stay at a bed and breakfast, and now we’re laying out why you might consider staying at a hotel. This post is for all the solo travelers out there, and in short, yes! You should definitely consider staying at a hostel. Hostels are extremely popular among students, but they’re a great alternative for all ages to traditional lodging options. For those who are used to hotels, staying at a hostel is likely out of the comfort zone, but that’s not always a bad thing – especially while traveling. Breaking out of your comfort zone often makes for amazing stories, and we have a few reasons why you should book a hostel on your next trip.

They encourage you to get more social

Hostels are often set-up like dormitories, only better! The restrooms are cleaner, there’s no loud music interrupting your sleep (because everyone is respectful of each other) and everyone is there for the same reason – to travel! It’s a great way to meet new people, and the common areas are great for socializing. Just make sure to be respectful of your roommates. (more…)

A Few Reasons to Book a B&B When you Travel

Friday, May 16th, 2014

Bed and BreakfastMost people instinctive think to book a hotel for their lodging needs while on vacation. With countless sites devoted to helping you find the perfect suite in the perfect location at the perfect price, securing a hotel room can seem like the most convenient choice. There are, however, other options. Namely, a bed and breakfast – A.K.A. a B&B.

B&Bs are a great place to stay in any city, but they’re often overshadowed by all those big-name hotel chains and their fancy advertising. We’d like to urge every traveler to try a B&B on a few of their trips. Check out our solid list of reasons below

Quality service

Bed and Breakfasts are often small establishments. Unlike hotels, you will likely have a chance to actually meet the owner(s), and you might actually make an honest connection with them. The gentleman who checks you into your room can also recommend the best nearby place for dinner instead of referring you to a concierge. Also, these kind of recommendations will usually be based on experience, rather than just listing a few run-of-the-mill dining chains.

Discover the "Pearl of the Orient Seas," the Philippines

The Philippines, coined the ‘Gems of the East,’ consists of 7,107 islands, and most of them are very small. All of the islands have a lot to offer to tourists, from the typical “sun, sea & beach” holidays to Eco Adventures deep into the diverse geography of these beautiful tropical islands. And don’t forget to meet the people – they are very friendly, and the country welcomes tourists, as they bring money to the country to support local businesses and the economy. From swimming with dolphins in coral waters, to exploring volcanoes and hidden waterfalls, to going out on the town to meet the people (perhaps trying some “tuba” coconut wine) and learn about their rich culture, the Philippines really has it all.

Embark on a full day small group excursion to the town of Pagsanjan, Laguna located two and a half hours south of Manila. Your destination is the Majestic Pagsanjan Falls. Take a scenic boat ride on a native dugout canoe (banca.) As the boat is skillfully maneuvered upstream by two boatmen, the landscape diversifies with beautiful boulders, steep gorges and lush tropical vegetation. Return downstream by “shooting the rapids” as expert boatmen steer past huge boulders in churning waters at top speeds. With its booming waters cascading down the cliff 900 feet below, this is truly an exhilarating, spine-tingling, adrenaline-pumping ride!

Next, hit the beach on our Mactan Island Snorkeling & Picnic Tour from Cebu City. This full day fun in the sun small group tour combines the excitement of riding on a motorized canoe (banca) with snorkeling, swimming or diving in the small islands of the Mactan Channel. Feed fish and soon you will have these colorful creatures feasting from your hands. Enjoy a refreshing swim in reef waters or free diving. A delightful lunch of grilled seafood, chicken or pork with fresh fruits for dessert will be served picnic style on a white sand beach. Whatever you choose to do, your time at Mactan Island is sure to be memorable and fun.

There’s no better way to end your day than enjoying a delicious buffet dinner of Philippine delicacies on board a floating barge on the Loboc River. Our Loboc Riverside Dinner & Night Cruise in Bohol offers a peaceful atmosphere and soft, soothing river breeze to help you unwind. Afterwards, transfer to another barge which will float you upriver towards Busay Falls, with a live band playing music to entertain you. Let the river and the lovely choir performances of the local talents of Loboc serenade you. Drinks are also available on board. You’ll love the cooler temperature of the day, beautiful tropical scenery, and relaxing ambiance.

Alcatraz Island in San Francisco - the infamous and notorious former federal prison

Alcatraz Island in San Francisco – the infamous and notorious former federal prison

I had an amazing time on my trip to San Francisco, thanks to several fantastic tours I had the opportunity to take. An absolute must-do tour in San Francisco is to visit the notorious former prison on Alcatraz Island! This is the most popular tourist attraction in San Francisco, and the Alcatraz Tour & San Francisco City Tour that I took combines a wonderful 3-hour San Francisco city tour with a tour of “The Rock”. Take a sightseeing excursion through San Francisco, and enjoy a tour of Alcatraz Island. You will thoroughly enjoy touring Alcatraz and walking through the cell block where Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelley, and Robert “The Birdman” Stroud, and many others were once held. The infamous prison is located on Alcatraz Island – just a 10-minute ferry ride from San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. Alcatraz tours are often sold out up to two weeks in advance, so be sure to book early.

The Painted Ladies

The Painted Ladies

On the San Francisco city tour, you will see all the major sights in San Francisco – from Alcatraz Landing to the Golden Gate Bridge to the Pacific Ocean to the Twin Peaks and to Chinatown. Tour highlights include Fisherman’s Wharf, The Marina District, San Francisco Bay, Palace of Fine Arts, Presidio National Park, Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach and Pacific Ocean, Italian North Beach, Victorian Homes (Painted Ladies), Cable Cars, Nob Hill, Civic Center, City Hall, Opera House, Financial District, Union Square, Coit Tower, Bay Bridge, Ghirardelli Square, and so much more.

Muir Woods

Muir Woods

Another excellent tour is the Muir Woods & Wine Country Tour by Van from San Francisco. Journey north over the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods National Monument. Enjoy solitude and peace as you stroll through 1000 year old trees towering 260 feet tall. Muir Woods is the only old-growth coastal redwood forest in the Bay Area and one of the last on the planet. Continuing on the excursion, take in the stunning scenery as you travel father north into Sonoma Valley, one of the most prized wine regions of Northern California. Once in the Wine Country, you will spend the afternoon sampling wines at three to four wineries. Then, as the day unwinds you will journey back to San Francisco, and enjoy a picturesque stop at the Golden Gate Bridge to witness the awe-inspiring view of the city from the Marin Headlands – the perfect ending to one very memorable day.

Dinner Dance Cruise

Dinner Dance Cruise

The San Francisco Dinner Dance Cruise was my last wonderful experience in San Francisco. As the sun sets, and city lights twinkle from the Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate, this Dinner Dance Cruise turns on the charm. A four-course, sit-down meal includes appetizers, salad, a choice of entrée and dessert, while live music and dancing round out this ideal sightseeing trip or special evening out. It’s the perfect way to end the day and perhaps take in a beautiful Pacific sunset as you board the ship, and later cheers as you watch San Francisco light up at night along with the stars.

The Embarcadero & Cupid's Span in San Francisco

The Embarcadero & Cupid

These tours gave me a great taste of what San Francisco has to offer, and I would recommend them to anyone who plans to visit the area. Visit San Francisco Tours and Alcatraz Island Sightseeing to plan your stay at the City by the Bay. Perhaps Tony Bennett put it best with these famous song lyrics: I left my heart in San Francisco. High on a hill, it calls to me. To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars. The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care. My love waits there, in San Francisco, above the blue and windy sea. When I come home to you, San Francisco, your golden sun will shine for me!

Beautiful Napa Wine Country By Van

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Wine Tasting Program

If you are looking to see California’s famous Wine Country in the company of others, you may want to consider touring the area by van. There are a few options to choose from, including an overnight combination package that features a trip to Muir Woods on day 1 and a tour around Wine Country on day 2.At night, you will stay over at a gorgeous Tuscan-style hotel where you can relax and recharge for the next day. This tour is especially convenient if you are staying in the San Francisco area, since the tour will pick you up from your downtown hotel or will also depart from several designated areas around the city.

If you would prefer to tour within the confines of one day, you may wish to explore the countryside on a 6-hour tour of some of the smaller boutique wineries in Sonoma County. This particular tour is private and can accommodate up to 8 people. The tour visits 6 wineries, typically stopping at Trentadue, Kendall-Jackson, Armida, Hop Kiln, Korbel, and Roshambo.Along the way you can pick up wine-related gifts for a friend and take lovely pictures of the vast and beautiful gardens around the area.

This tour enables you to have a more intimate time with close friends and family and is a wonderful way to take in the surroundings with the people you love.It is a special treat if you go during the change of season and see the area dotted with beautiful colors that even the most talented artist couldn’t have painted himself.

Visit for more information on tours of this staggeringly beautiful area!

Branson Weekend Getaways

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Branson is the ideal destination for live entertainment, earning it the moniker “Live Entertainment Capital of the World.” As such, it is impossible to see everything on offer in a single day. With that in mind, Branson Shows has created several vacation packages designed to showcase the best of the best, nicely tied together in a single deal.

The Stone Castle Weekend Vacation Package, which is offered from April through September, gives you a chance to enjoy the city for three days and two nights. Included in the package is accommodation at The Stone Castle Hotel or you can book a similar package with a stay at the Lodge of the Ozarks. It is slightly more expensive to stay at the Lodge because it is located on the Strip, but this is an optimal location for those who want to get out and explore beyond the confines of this package.

The weekend agenda is as follows. On Friday night you will enjoy a 6:30 pm showing of the SIX Dinner Show, where you will dine by candlelight before listening to the musical stylings of six very talented brothers. The group not only sings but uses vocal percussion, meaning that the only accompanying sounds are those of the voices themselves.

On Saturday afternoon, you will have a choice between three shows, all starting at 3 pm. You can sit in on the Acrobats of China show, which features amazing stunts and a vibrant celebration of Chinese history and culture, or you can tune in for Country Tonite, a tribute to the country music of yesterday and today. Finally, you can opt for the entertaining Kirby & Bambi VanBurch Magic Show for a dose of rousing theatrics and large-scale illusions, with a collection of exotic animals thrown into the mix. In the evening you will choose between the Shoji Tabuchi Show – which includes Shoji himself along with his gifted wife and daughter – and the Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show.

During the holidays, you can take advantage of the Branson Christmas Weekends Package, which also takes place over three days and two nights. Accommodations for this package are provided by either The Stone Castle Hotel or the Lodge of the Ozarks. The itinerary is laid out in the following way. On Friday night you will get to see the Kirby and Bambi VanBurch Christmas Spectacular Magic Show and your Saturday morning entertainment will come from the Shoji Tabuchi Christmas Show. Saturday night is reserved for the Dolly Parton Dixie Christmas Dinner & Show. Put all these elements together and you get a nice taste of the true spirit of Christmas!

It is clear that Branson Shows really did their homework when creating these packages, and you can probably expect more equally appealing packages in the near future. To book one of the packages mentioned here, or to take a look at some of the individual tours currently on offer, visit

Sun, Sand and Stunning Views

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

With Mexico being so close to your vacation spot of San Diego, you must take advantage of the many amenities that San Diego Tours offers across the border.  Its close proximity allows you to see even more of the west coast during your vacation.

One option that San Diego Tours provides in Mexico is the Tijuana, Mexico Tour.  You will find so many wonderful things about this tour as Tijuana is a very historic and cultural city in Mexico.  One of your first stops on this completely narrated bus tour is at Paseo de los Heroes Avenue, meaning Road of the Heroes in English.  This is one of the most important avenues in all of Tijuana, and possibly Mexico as well, as it represents and celebrates the heroes of the Mexican Revolution.

Another stop along the way is the Tijuana Cultural Center.  This spherical shaped building contains a museum of Mexican history along with exhibits from different regions of the country.  Additionally, the center contains a lecture hall, IMAX® Theater, concert hall, video room, beautiful courtyards, café and bookstore.  While on this tour, you may shop through the colorful bazaars and find interesting handcrafts from the many different regions of Mexico.   There is no doubt that with this wonderfully historic based tour, you will enter back in the States more knowledgeable and impressed by Tijuana, Mexico.

Another Mexican locale that San Diego Tours can offer you is the Rosarito Beach Mexico Tour.  This tour takes you to amazing spots that you may not have known were there.  Your tour begins with a brief drive through Tijuana and a stop at the Rosarito Beach Hotel.  This hotel was a hidden getaway for the famous in the 1940s and still is a popular hotel specializing in relaxation.

After visiting the hotel and getting a look at the beautiful ocean views, the tour bus will then take you into the town of Rosarito, which was actually the filming location of the movie Titanic.  At this point, you will be given time to shop from the local vendors or dine at one of the many fantastic eateries in the area.  This tour is perfect if you want to experience a piece of culture you never knew existed.

The trip to Ensenada, Mexico should be enough to satisfy any sightseer looking for beautiful views, but the Ensenada Mexico Tour with Lunch offers much more than the natural beauty.  Not only will you witness the spectacular views from the tour coach along the way, but you will visit the Baja coastline to enjoy the amazing features Mother Nature has brought to the area.

Along the coastline, there are many small villages to visit and experience a different side to Mexico.  You will also be taken to the Rosarito Beach Hotel and see a bit of the town.  Additionally, the tour stops at a small fishing town where you will enjoy your lunch at a wonderful restaurant.  There is plenty of time to get some shopping in or take a pleasant walk along the beach.  This could be the most memorable part of your entire trip and is something you definitely will want to visit again.

There are plenty of reasons to check out the wonderful areas of Mexico while visiting California.  It is a wonderful experience that will provide great memories for you to share for many years to come.  Book your tour tickets today at
