Saddle Up for the Dude Ranch

Monday, January 26th, 2009

For the ultimate Western experience while you are in Texas, book the Ranch Stay Western Package in Grandview Texas.  This package includes an overnight stay at the ranch and a full country breakfast.  Lunch is included as well.  Other activities around the ranch include playing horseshoes, paintball laser tag, and stocked pond fishing.  The ranch is situated in an 1880s Western town where you can still see real cowboys herding cattle while on horseback.

After breakfast, you will go on a beautiful trail ride and have a roping lesson or go skeet shooting.  If you have never gone skeet shooting it is worth it to try at least once.  You may be even better at it than you think! Later on you can take a trip over to the adult only lounge to take a break and mingle.

The ranch is only 35 minutes from downtown Fort Worth and Dallas, so it is very convenient but far enough away from the city to give you a real look into cowboy life.  You can stay for more than one night, but ticket prices are per overnight stay.  The kids will love this look into the past and they will get to feel like cowboys for a day.  So, the next time they decide to play Cowboys & Indians they will have more insight into their characters.

Be prepared to have the time of your life on this trip.  There will be dancing, hayrides, cookouts, andhorseback riding which are all fun activities for the whole family.  For those bold enough to give it a shot, there is also a mechanical bull to ride.      To book your stay on the ranch, visit www.bigdtours.com and check out all the other fun things to do while you are in the area.

No Work, All Play in Monterey!

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Monterey, a city in central California known for its famous fishery and well-known residents, has lots to offer to visitors year-round.  From whale watching tours to horseback rides, Jeep excursions to aquariums, no matter what you are interested in doing you are sure to find it in Monterey.

If movies and pop culture interest you, you can engage in one of the most popular activities in Monterey – exploring movie locations and stars’ homes.  The Monterey Bay Movie Tour allows you to just that, with stops at famous movie sites such as Cannery Row, where Marilyn Monroe’s film Clash by Night was shot.  You will also pass the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which was featured in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Many movies were shot out on Monterey Bay, including Monster from the Ocean Floor and Mutiny on the Bounty.  The Tom Hanks film Turner and Hooch was shot in Pacific Grove, which borders the Bay.  Your tour bus will also take you to Pebble Beach, whose coastline was used in The Parent Trap, The Big Bounce, Chandler, and many other movies.  The Lodge at Pebble Beach was a frequently used location as well, and it was shown in National Velvet, Follow the Sun, and The Ghost.

In addition to seeing some famous spots, you will also get to see why so many directors have chosen to shoot there.  The staggering beauty of Monterey’s landscape and the temperate climate make it an ideal place to live and to film.

The Whale Watching Adventure is yet another reason to travel to the area.  This guided tour, which lasts between two and a half and three hours, is spent looking out on the water at the Humpbacks as well as the Blue and Gray whales.  What you see will depend on the time of year, but you can expect to see a variety if you visit between May and January.  You may even see whales breaking the surface and getting very close to the boats so you can take a look at them up close.  This is an excellent activity for all ages and is especially enjoyable for children.

Visit Monterey this year and you will be so glad you did.  For more information on this fabulous location, go to www.montereytours.net and start planning your next vacation!

Living the Simple Life in Durango

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Durango, Colorado is the ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts.  Known for its hiking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, and several other activities, it is the quintessential vacation spot for active individuals.  Jeep tours, perhaps one of the best ways to see this gorgeous area, allow you to go off the beaten path and see everything out in the open air.  Because of this, you are able to engage many of your senses in addition to the obvious, sight.  You can take Jeep tours at sunset for an added romantic tone, or you can explore during the day for several different intervals of time depending on your personal schedule.

If you are anxious to really be in the thick of it, join a horseback riding excursion for a few days up close and personal with nature.  The Continental Divide Horseback Ride lasts eight days and takes you almost 100 miles, following a trail from the Weminuche Wilderness to Silverton, Colorado.  All travel in this area is restricted to foot or horseback, so you will enjoy a more simple existence for the duration of the trip.  You will see the positive effect that the lack of mass transportation has had on preservation efforts.  The land is beautiful and unspoiled, dotted with lakes, streams, and high alpine basins.

Another option for the adventurer in you is the High Country Lake & Fishing Trip.  Lasting seven days, you will stay in comfortable accommodations, with each tent equipped with cots and padding.  Some of the wildlife you will see along the way includes elk, black bear, blue grouse, and mule deer.   You will also go fly fishing in the Pine River as part of your trip along the continental divide.

As you can see, Durango is the perfect area to visit if the idea of being close to nature and taking in the sights from up close excites you.  Check out www.durangotours.net for even more options and ideas to make your trip one that will remain in your memory for a long time to come.

Enter the Vast Wilderness of Yosemite National Park

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Yosemite National Park was one of the first wilderness parks in the United States.  It is best known for its waterfalls and you will find within the park deep valleys, vast meadows, giant archaic sequoias and endless wonderful wilderness.

Yosemite Tours helps provide sightseeing tours, attractions and transportation to Yosemite National Park.  You can tour the area by van, bus and train.  In addition to activities within the park, Yosemite Tours also offers vacations in San Francisco because it is so close.

The most popular tour we provide is the Yosemite One-Day Tour by Bus from San Francisco.  You will venture into the ample wilderness in a large, comfy motor coach with giant windows so you can catch all the wonderful scenery around you.  You will pass the Sierra Foothills where the Forty-Niners panned for gold in the 1840s and ‘50s.  When you enter the 716,266 acre National Park, you will be left speechless by some of the world’s most stunning scenery.

One of the most spectacular things you will see there is El Capitan.  This is a 3,000 foot tall vertical rock formation in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.  You will notice that there will be people climbing it as it is one of rock climber’s favorite challenges.

Another memorable sight is the double cataract waterfall, Bridal Veil Falls.  It is not only beautiful in the summer when the waters are rushing incredibly fast, but in the winter it is just as appealing.  There is an icefall to the right of the falls that attracts many experienced ice climbers and it is quite a sight!

Yosemite Falls, another one of the waterfalls in the park, is the highest measured waterfall in North America and one of the world’s tallest measuring at 2,425 feet.  It flows between November and July but it peaks in May so if that is when you are planning on visiting, you are in for a treat!  You can walk to the Lower Yosemite Fall (it actually has three separate falls) or hike to the top if you have time later as it takes a full day.

When you fall in love with Yosemite National Park, you will definitely come back because there is even more to do and see.  Yosemite has even more waterfalls, trails to hike, horseback riding, rock climbing, fishing, biking, rafting and additional tours of the park.

To reserve your trip to the park, visit www.yosemitetours.us today!

Horseback Riding near San Francisco

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Dollar Rent-a-Car, Inc.

With the warm weather seemingly here to stay, it was time to find some new outdoor activities to enjoy around the San Francisco Bay with my family.  In my search for new things to do, I came across a series of horseback riding adventures that peaked my interest.

The Bodega Bay horseback rides seemed like the best fit because they offered pony rides for the children, as well as guided horse tours along the beach for the adults.  The trip was fantastic.  Our guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, and we are now looking at another horseback riding trip to Point Reyes that we might take in a few weeks.  I will keep you posted…
