Creatures and Colors in Beautiful Victoria, BC

Victoria, British Columbia, home to the famous Butchart Gardens, is a wonderful place to visit during the spring and summer months.  The capital city is bustling with activity, from Canada Day festivities in July to Symphony Splash in August.  While there are lots of festivals going on in Victoria, there is plenty to do on the day-to-day as well, and a scenic tour of the area is just what you need to get the lay of the land.

A great way to see the city and check out its main attraction is on the Grand Tour of Victoria & Butchart Gardens combination trip.  Aboard a traditional English double-decker bus, you will get a chance to check out the homes and gardens that make Victoria unique.  You will learn the back story on the Empress Hotel, Antique Row, and Chinatown and will make a stop at Castle Point for an exquisite view of Oak Bay and the Coast Mountains.  Along the way you will also check out the exclusive Uplands and Oak Bay residential areas as you enjoy a peaceful ride along Marine Drive.

As you make your way around Victoria, you will ultimately reach Butchart Gardens, where over 50 acres of blossoms and fragrances await you.  A walk through the theme gardens - linked by spacious lawns, meandering streams, and lily ponds - will relax and rejuvenate you, as will a visit to the sunken garden.  As an added bonus, seasonal outdoor performances in the afternoon add that special something to your trip.

For an extra dose of natural beauty, take the Butchart Gardens & Butterfly Gardens Tour, which provides access into Butterfly Gardens, an indoor tropical garden where the butterflies fly freely and display their unique shapes and color patterns.  The enclosed gardens house even more varieties of plants and flowers for you to be amazed by, so if endless bursts of color and life are what you crave, this may just be the perfect tour for you.

There are many fun activities to choose from in Victoria, so for a more complete list visit www.VictoriaTours.org.

Orlando Dining and Entertainment

By the time you finish your day of sightseeing in Orlando, you should be ready to sit back and relax as you enjoy a deliciously satisfying meal.  In Orlando, there are many dining options, several of which combine quality food and top-notch entertainment into one enjoyable evening.

The Pirate’s Dinner Adventure in Orlando, which is set on a large, fully-rigged pirate ship, is made complete with an excellent Broadway-quality show of epic proportions.  The classic story of good and evil, which is presented with the perfect mix of comedy, action, romance, and adventure, will leave dinner guests in stitches.  The show’s cast includes Princess Anita and Sebastian the Black - the leader of the unruly pirate gang.  At the end of the evening, you can join together with the cast for the Buccaneer Bash and a chance to party the night away.

In stark contrast to the pirates’ treachery, your trip to Orlando can be rounded out with an appearance at Disney World’s Chef Mickey Character Dinner.  A chance to dine with Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy, and Chip & Dale, this dining extravaganza is perfect for kids and those who feel young at heart.  Your evening begins when you are picked up from your hotel in a classy 5-star stretch limousine for a ride over to Downtown Disney and a chance to walk around Disney’s Marketplace.  Then you will be taken over to Disney’s Chef Mickey restaurant for a tasty buffet dinner and dessert bar with your favorite Disney friends.

There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy an evening of dining and entertainment during your time in Orlando if you know where to look.  Visit www.Orlando-Tours.com for more exciting options to choose from.

Take a Walk Through the Garden of Good and Evil

If you have ever read or heard of the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil you will not want to miss the Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil Book Tour which takes you to the locations the bestselling book is based on as well as the sites where the movie was shot.  Included on the tour is a visit to the Bonaventure Cemetery, which is said to be the real garden, where you can visit character Danny Hansford’s grave.

This tour lasts about 3 hours, and is incredible from start to finish.  There are only 14 people to a group so there is ample opportunity to ask questions along the way.  If ghost tours are your “thing,” then this tour should make your short list of things to do while you are visiting the Savannah area.

Bring Your ‘Booty’ on Board the Pirate’s Ransom in Clearwater

For a cruise with a little attitude, climb aboard the Pirate Cruise from Clearwater for 2 hours of family fun and adventure set to the music of a steel band.  On board the 70-foot pirate ship, there are several fully costumed pirates and other characters which add to the overall experience.

Passengers will embark out into the Gulf of Mexico along Clearwater Beach as they enter the fantasy world where pirates litter the seaways and dolphins come along to play.  Children can get their faces painted and adults can take advantage of the full service bar to purchase an alcoholic beverage.

This is a magical adventure that the adults will enjoy just as much as the children.  The ship is custom designed to look like a pirate ship from the past, and as you travel the waters of Clearwater, you will feel like you are truly a part of the story.  Everyone must do this cruise once, and you may decide to even do it again just to share the experience with others.  Enjoy some time aboard the Pirate’s Ransom and you will feel like a kid again.  Just don’t forget to bring a camera because the dolphin sightings are spectacular.

Clearwater Tours has even more exciting tours and activities to choose from on their site, www.ClearwaterTours.com.

A Grand Time with the Chicago Grand Tour

The next time you are in Chicago, consider taking the Chicago Grand Tour with the Hancock Tower add-on option.  The tour, while well worth the price of admission on its own, includes admission to the 94th Floor Observatory at Hancock Tower, which can easily be a major highlight of your whole trip.  The observatory affords you the opportunity to see the dramatically beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan along with a magnificent horizon that takes in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin.

One of the best parts of the tour is getting to visit some of Chicago’s most beautiful parks including Washington, Grant, and Lincoln Parks and the Lincoln Park Conservatory.  Additionally, the view from Adler Planetarium is gorgeous.  Children especially enjoy riding the world’s fastest elevator up to the 94th floor of the observatory, while adults marvel at the view from the top of the open-air Skydeck.

This tour is very convenient, as it offers hotel pickup for those travelers who stay at downtown Chicago hotels.  Eliminating the need for coordinating travel, this is a worry-free day of sightseeing that I would recommend to anyone visiting the Chicago area.

Toronto from Above

Helicopter tours are a unique way to see the city from a different vantage point.  One popular tour is the Vertical Reality Helicopter Tour, which takes you 2,000 feet into the air for amazing aerial views and it travels an average of 100 miles per hour.   A similar tour called the Vertical Obsession Helicopter Tour in Toronto takes you on an extended version of the flight to get a more comprehensive view of Toronto and its giant skyscrapers.

There are also several romantic tours – like the Romantic Jewel Helicopter Tour in Toronto - showcasing downtown Toronto, which take place from morning to sunset.  The Romantic Interlude Helicopter Tour in Toronto is a private flight for two that lifts you out over the city for a breathtaking view of the Toronto skyline, the waterfront, and the bay before traveling north to the magnificent Casa Loma castle.  The castle is a historical landmark and the former estate of Sir Henry Pellatt, a prominent figure in Toronto known for his work in finance, as an industrialist, and as a member of the military.

The Vertical Obsession Helicopter Tour around Toronto gets you oriented to the area while providing a unique experience for those who have never flown in a helicopter before.  There are numerous opportunities to take pictures and look out at the city skyline as you make your way across the city.  For a fantastic opportunity to bond with a loved one or to enjoy time with a close friend or two, I urge you to take this tour.  It is relatively short so it fits nicely into your day even if you are on a busy schedule.

Tours and activities going on in Toronto can be booked at www.torontotours.net
