NOLA at Night

The Crescent City Nights Walking Tour with Dinner in New Orleans gives you a look across the board at New Orleans night life.  Included in the tour are dinner, Café au Lait and Beignets at Café du Monde, a jazz club stop, and a walk down Bourbon Street.  The night starts with dinner at Tujague’s Restaurant, which has served dinner since 1856 to locals as well as visitors, from the guy or girl next door to presidents, poets, and local dignitaries.

After dinner, you will take a short walk to one of New Orleans’ local jazz clubs to enjoy some of the music that New Orleans is known for.  You can groove along to the music or sit and sip on a complimentary cocktail and have a listen.  Next you will take a walk along Bourbon Street, which is likely the image that initially pops into your head when you think of New Orleans.  During your walk, you will have the benefit of your guide’s knowledge and he will share with you some of the unique history of this neighborhood.

At the end of the night, you will taste some beignets, or French doughnuts, and some Café au Lait at Café du Monde, which is considered a local tradition in New Orleans.  This shop is world famous for its coffee and beignets as well as for being a great place to people watch.  It is the perfect way to end the evening and you will be transported back to your drop-off point by taxi.  For anyone who has wondered what all the buzz is about with New Orleans, here is your chance to see it all up close!

Castle Tours in Copenhagen

As children, many of us used to daydream about living in a castle.  While that may not have come to pass, today you are able to spend the day touring some of the magnificent castles in Denmark and to get up close for a better view of how the ‘other half’ lives.  On the Hamlet Castle Tour, the day starts with a trip to Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, Denmark.  Most of this castle - named after King Frederick II - was built between 1600 and 1620 by the king’s son.  Its copper-covered roofs and fabulous sandstone decorations were inspired by Dutch Renaissance style.  In 1995, Prince Joachim and Princess Alexandra decided to wed at Frederiksborg Palace surrounded by the beauty of the castle’s gardens and the water surrounding the islands of Hillerød.

Another stop on the Hamlet Castle Tour is Fredensborg Palace, the Danish Royal Family’s residence during the spring and fall.  This palace is the home most used by the Royal Family for state visits and other important events.  The gorgeous green garden grounds are among Denmark’s largest historical gardens.  The garden known as the Norwegian Valley, or Nordmandsdalen, houses about 70 sculptures of Norwegian and Faroese fishermen and farmers.  Another garden area, closest to the palace, is reserved for the Royal Family for fresh vegetables.  This portion of the tour is a real treat, since most people have probably not had the opportunity to get so close to such a magnificent structure before.

The final stop on the tour before heading back to Copenhagen is Kronborg Castle, located in Elsinore.  This was actually the setting for Shakespeare’s masterpiece Hamlet.  This is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe and was built in the 1420s by King Eric of Pomerania.  It was rebuilt in 1585 by Frederick II, which is when it secured the name Kronborg.

For those looking to see the beautiful architecture that Denmark has to offer, definitely take a castle tour.  You will not regret it and will come away from the experience with an appreciation and understanding of fine Renaissance style.  To find out more about this tour, as well as other fabulous activities in the Copenhagen area, visit www.copenhagentours.net

Cruise from Athens to Hydra, Poros & Aegina

For a day of island hopping, book a place on the Hydra, Poros & Aegina Cruise Departing from Athens, Greece where you will travel to three drastically different Greek islands. This is a worthwhile trip for those who want to get a taste of island life without booking accommodation on each island.

Hydra, one of the Saronic Islands in Greece, is located between the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Motor vehicles are not allowed on the island except for the garbage trucks, so tourists and locals travel by foot, horse, donkey, and water taxi. On this tour you will see the island on foot as you enjoy some free time to look through the shops, take a swim, or just explore the town, known simply as Hydra port. It is made up of a crescent-shaped harbor surrounded by commercial establishments like restaurants, galleries, markets, and shops. You will notice that a large number of the visitors in the area are from Athens.

Next up on the tour is a short trip to the island of Poros, which is a small Greek island-pair in the southern portion of the Saronic Gulf. It is located about 32 miles south of Piraeus and its surface area is only about 12 miles. The two islands that make up Poros are Sphairia to the south and Kalaureia to the north. Poros is an area with rich vegetation and a mountainous landscape, and it is a popular resort for short vacations.

Finally, before heading back to Athens you will reach Aegina, where you can opt to take an excursion to the Temple of Aphaia for an extra cost or you can make your way to the main town. This is the largest of the Saronic Islands and is the closest to Attica. It is also a popular summer resort spot and a second home to many Athenians.

The total time allotted for the tour is 10 hours, and it is well worth it. You will enjoy getting a feel for the differences between each island and getting to wander around town and see how the locals live.  Visit www.athenstours.net for more information on this and other tours and activities.

A Night of Murder and Mystery in Dallas

For a unique experience, take Keith & Margo’s Ultimate Mystery Dinner Adventure at Old Mill Inn in Dallas.  This interactive show is a great nighttime activity to take loved ones to on a special occasion, and the performers are happy to custom write a part incorporating that into the festivities.  Throughout the night you will conduct an investigation into a fictitious homicide case.  You play a crucial part in the investigation as you evaluate evidence and interrogate suspects.  Of course you can’t be ruled out as a suspect, so you may find yourself being interrogated as well.

During the show you will be served a catered dinner, complete with cash bar and assorted fruit, cheeses, and crackers plus a fresh double entrée and dessert.  Enjoy your fabulous meal but be ready to get back to work solving the crime! You will not want to miss a beat and will enjoy pouring over evidence and comparing your theories about motive.  At the conclusion of the show, everyone will present their theories and the Homicide Detective will expose the murderer after piecing all the details together.  You may even win the Grand Prize if you turn out to be the most accurate and detail-oriented so break out your magnifying glass and get to investigating!

The dress code for this event is upscale casual but do not wear jeans or t-shirts and sneakers. This is an incredible way to spend the evening and is recommended for anyone who is ready to put their ‘thinking caps’ on and decode the mystery.  For more on this activity, visit www.bigdtours.com.
