Branson Weekend Getaways

Branson is the ideal destination for live entertainment, earning it the moniker “Live Entertainment Capital of the World.” As such, it is impossible to see everything on offer in a single day. With that in mind, Branson Shows has created several vacation packages designed to showcase the best of the best, nicely tied together in a single deal.

The Stone Castle Weekend Vacation Package, which is offered from April through September, gives you a chance to enjoy the city for three days and two nights. Included in the package is accommodation at The Stone Castle Hotel or you can book a similar package with a stay at the Lodge of the Ozarks. It is slightly more expensive to stay at the Lodge because it is located on the Strip, but this is an optimal location for those who want to get out and explore beyond the confines of this package.

The weekend agenda is as follows. On Friday night you will enjoy a 6:30 pm showing of the SIX Dinner Show, where you will dine by candlelight before listening to the musical stylings of six very talented brothers. The group not only sings but uses vocal percussion, meaning that the only accompanying sounds are those of the voices themselves.

On Saturday afternoon, you will have a choice between three shows, all starting at 3 pm. You can sit in on the Acrobats of China show, which features amazing stunts and a vibrant celebration of Chinese history and culture, or you can tune in for Country Tonite, a tribute to the country music of yesterday and today. Finally, you can opt for the entertaining Kirby & Bambi VanBurch Magic Show for a dose of rousing theatrics and large-scale illusions, with a collection of exotic animals thrown into the mix. In the evening you will choose between the Shoji Tabuchi Show - which includes Shoji himself along with his gifted wife and daughter - and the Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show.

During the holidays, you can take advantage of the Branson Christmas Weekends Package, which also takes place over three days and two nights. Accommodations for this package are provided by either The Stone Castle Hotel or the Lodge of the Ozarks. The itinerary is laid out in the following way. On Friday night you will get to see the Kirby and Bambi VanBurch Christmas Spectacular Magic Show and your Saturday morning entertainment will come from the Shoji Tabuchi Christmas Show. Saturday night is reserved for the Dolly Parton Dixie Christmas Dinner & Show. Put all these elements together and you get a nice taste of the true spirit of Christmas!

It is clear that Branson Shows really did their homework when creating these packages, and you can probably expect more equally appealing packages in the near future. To book one of the packages mentioned here, or to take a look at some of the individual tours currently on offer, visit www.Branson-Shows.net.

Charleston, a City Enduring History

When you first arrive in Charleston, I would highly recommend taking a comprehensive Charleston Tour by Minibus to orient you to the area and show you some of the city highlights. This tour is 75 minutes packed with history and dramatic scenery. You will get to look out at the view of Charleston Harbor at historic Fort Sumter and hear about the Confederate submarine, Hunley. Many movies were shot on location here, including ‘The Patriot’ and ‘Cold Mountain,’ and you will get clarification on their historical context during the tour.

charleston-tour-by-minibus2Along the way you will see the beautifully painted houses on Rainbow Row, the Market - which is essentially 3 blocks of open air market with produce, handmade crafts, restaurants and shops - and scores of historic houses and churches. The great part about this tour is that with all that ground to cover it is nice to see it from the comfort of an air-conditioned minibus so you don’t have to worry about transportation from point A to point B and having to navigate around the city streets on foot.

This tour allows you to travel through history to the times of the slave trade, the Civil War, and the original ‘Walled City’ as you are driven through the narrow streets of Charleston and are provided with unrestricted access to the Historic District. It gives you a great view of many of the homes and churches that have made this city famous, and after this tour you will definitely want to venture out in the city to take advantage of all it has to offer.

Explore the Untouched Wilderness of Ketchikan

Ketchikan, Alaska - often referred to as the “Salmon Capital of the World” - is a great place to take the family if you are traveling in late spring or during the summer.  The city’s economy is largely dependent on tourism and fishing, and judging on all the activities on offer there, this is definitely a good thing.

While Alaska may be known to some as an area where there isn’t much to do, Ketchikan Tours provides more than a few fun activities that will prove to you otherwise.  While you are in Ketchikan, you can see Orca’s Cove, Pennock Island, and Misty Fjords National Monument, which happens to be the area’s most popular attraction.  For the active bunch, there are opportunities to go kayaking, boating, take a ride in a seaplane, or take a glacier tour.  If your plans take you out of Ketchikan, you can also use Ketchikan Tours to plan activities in Anchorage, Seward, Denali, and Talkeetna.

When you are looking to visit Misty Fjords National Monument - and you should - there are several tours that you can choose from, each offering a unique perspective on your surroundings.  The Misty Fjords Flight-Seeing Tour takes you high above the waterfalls, fjords, and sparkling lakes for a spectacular aerial view.  In addition to the impressive granite walls, which rise over 3,000 feet in the air, you will also be exposed to many species of wildlife including bears, deer, wolves, whales, bald eagles, and mountain goats.  Stay alert and there is no telling what you will find!

Another option, if you are more interested in being out on the water, is the Misty Fjords Full Day Kayak Adventure.  You don’t have to be a kayaking expert to come on this exciting excursion, which takes you right into the heart of the Fjords.   First, you will board a fast boat and cruise out to the Misty Fjords, all while enjoying an amazing panoramic view of the area.  You will travel up the Behm Canal and then stop at New Eddystone Rock, which is a volcanic plug that rises above the ocean at an altitude of 237 feet.  Once you reach Rudyerd Fjord, you will embark on your kayaking trip and start exploring the Misty Fjords National Monument.

Your guide will walk you through the paddling basics as you climb into one of the stable fiberglass boats.  You will find that your ride is exceptionally smooth, since the Fjords are well-protected from strong winds.  If you visit anytime from July on, you can even watch the salmon fighting their way up stream as they return from the open ocean.  This is only one of many wildlife encounters you will enjoy as you observe animals and their young feeding from the streams nearby.  You will enjoy a picnic lunch and a walk through some of the rainforests and you can take some time to hike if you so desire.  If you are interested in taking some incredible pictures, this is the trip for you.

From start to finish, you will thoroughly enjoy your trip to Ketchikan, whether you opt for one of the tours above or for one of the many other activities currently available.  Visit www.ketchikantours.net for more on how you can make your Alaska trip truly unforgettable.

Check out the Nightlife in Budapest

When you make a visit to Hungary, you may be anxious to check out the nightlife in Budapest. If you are not sure of the best places to go, take the Pub Crawl Walking Tour. This will give you the insight you need and will give you an idea of places to explore further when you are out on your own.

During the night, you get to go to at least three pubs where the locals hang out, and the tour begins with a shot of palinka with the rest of the tour group. Then you do what is known as a ‘power hour’ where you have a choice of unlimited wine or beer. That will really get you psyched up for the rest of the tour. Next, you will visit the pubs and sample two local beers and some other shots. This is an excellent option for young people who want to see how Hungary parties (only if you are of age, of course).

Your experience with this tour will be absolutely wonderful. It is a great time to meet interesting people, both on the tour itself as well as those patronizing the pubs you will visit. The tour guides are knowledgeable and entertaining and really know how to hold your attention. This tour, which is really more of an event, is a must for anyone who is ready to let loose and have a good time.

The website www.budapesttours.net is a great resource for tours and activities around Budapest. They book fast so plan ahead and book early. Visit the site for more information and to book tickets online for added convenience.

Visit Small Town Whittier on Your Next Alaskan Getaway

Now that the winter season is passing us by, it is the perfect time to start planning your next vacation.  In fact, now that the weather has gotten a little warmer, Alaska is a great place to scope out.  If you are going in that direction sometime between May and September, Whittier is just the place.

This small town, with a population just under 200, has a lot to offer to visitors, with its breathtaking scenery easily topping the list.  It is also conveniently located near Fairbanks, Anchorage, Denali, Seward, and Talkeetna so should you decide to venture out to a larger city, you don’t have far to go.

On your trip to Whittier, a ride on the cruise ship Emerald Sea is a must.  During your voyage, you will see the incredible glaciers around Prince William Sound while riding in the comfort of a Coast Guard-certified boat with indoor heating, a full bar, and a number of outer viewing decks to get the best possible view of the glaciers.

The wide array of wildlife you will see during the ride will amaze you, as you will likely pass by porpoises, sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters, and various whale species.  In addition to those you will see in the water, you may be able to spot some Bald Eagles, Cormorants, Common Mures, and other types of birds nesting, fanning their wings out, or diving for food.

For those who are looking to dine on their cruise, there is an all-you-can-eat option with a tremendous buffet of salmon and prime rib.  When you have finished your dinner, belly up to the dessert bar for some cake, brownies, and Jell-O.

To get the best out of your Alaskan vacation, don’t forget to consider a side trip to Whittier.  It just may help make this your best vacation yet!  For more on this fabulous cruise, visit www.whittiertours.com.

See the City of Lakes

Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota, so it is only fitting that it would also have the largest mall in the U.S. - the Mall of America - located in a nearby suburb. The area is rich in water, with 20 lakes and wetlands and the Mississippi waterfront, and the city is aptly nicknamed the ‘City of Lakes.’ Minneapolis is also known for its involvement in the arts, with its theater per capita just under that of New York City.

There are many ways to see Minneapolis and the Twin Cities, also known as Minneapolis-St. Paul, and you can start planning now even if you don’t plan to travel for a few months. For those who wish to see the city and try their luck on the slots, hop on the Casino Cruise near St. Paul. You will enjoy a brunch buffet complete with salads, entrees and mouth-watering desserts as you cruise along St. Croix River until you get to the Treasure Island Resort and Casino. You will then have four hours to gamble to your heart’s content before heading back. This day of fun is for adults only, and runs on selected Tuesdays from June to October.

If you prefer to travel by train, you can see the St. Croix River Valley on the Train Tour between Osceola WI & Marine on St. Croix, MN. The trip takes off from the Village of Osceola and lasts for 90 minutes. Travel during the change of seasons for an elaborate display of vibrant colors, or at any time from April through October.

The site www.minneapolistours.net has some wonderful sightseeing ideas, and you are bound to find at least one that is perfect for you, so check it out!
